About Staking Ethereum
Ethereum moved to Proof-of-Stake with The Merge in 2022. You can stake by running a validator (32 ETH), joining a staking pool, or using a liquid staking token. Yields come from issuance plus priority fees and are shared across all validators, so they drift down as more ETH is staked.
Ethereum Staking: APY and Lock-Up at a Glance
- Typical APY: 3% – 5% (variable — always verify the live rate)
- Lock-up / unbonding: No fixed lock-up, but stake and withdrawals pass through a network entry/exit queue that can take days when demand is high.
- Reward type: Paid in ETH, so your fiat value still depends on the ETH price.
⚠️ Risks of Staking Ethereum
Staking is not a savings account. Before staking ETH, understand the downsides: the market price can drop while your funds are locked or unbonding; validators can be slashed for downtime or misbehaviour, costing you part of your stake; APY is variable and not guaranteed; and staking through an exchange or protocol adds custodial and smart-contract risk. Ethereum Staking: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the current Ethereum (ETH) staking APY?
Ethereum staking yields are typically in the range of 3% – 5%, but this is an estimate that changes constantly. The actual rate depends on how much ETH is staked network-wide, validator performance and commission, and the network's reward schedule. Always check the live rate on your chosen validator or platform and enter it into the calculator above.
How much can I earn staking Ethereum?
Your rewards depend on how much ETH you stake, the APY at the time, and how long you stake for. Enter your amount and an up-to-date APY into the calculator above to see an estimate. Remember the result is an estimate only and does not account for price changes in ETH.
Is there a lock-up period when staking ETH?
No fixed lock-up, but stake and withdrawals pass through a network entry/exit queue that can take days when demand is high.
Is staking Ethereum safe?
Staking Ethereum carries real risks: the ETH price can fall while your funds are staked or unbonding, validators can be slashed for misbehaviour, and staking through an exchange or third party adds custodial and smart-contract risk. Staking rewards do not guarantee a profit. Never stake more than you can afford to lock up and potentially lose.
