About Oktay Shakirov
Oktay Shakirov is the founder, lead researcher, and principal writer of TheCrypto.Wiki. He has been in crypto since 2016 and has a professional background in software engineering and web development. He built and maintains this site personally, from the code it runs on to the words on every page. His approach is technical first: he reads the whitepapers and the documentation rather than the headlines, then translates what he learns into plain-language guides that anyone can follow.
Why He Built This Site
When Oktay started in 2016, good information was scattered across a hundred different places, and most of it came with an agenda. Every "guide" seemed to be pushing a token, an exchange, or a get-rich-quick promise. He wanted one honest place where a beginner could actually learn how this technology works, without wading through fake shilling of projects and the endless scams that fill this space.
So he built it. TheCrypto.Wiki is the all-in-one resource he wishes he had when he bought his first crypto: clear explanations, real risks spelled out, and no hype. You will never find price predictions, "guaranteed" returns, or paid promotion of coins here. If something is risky, he says so.
The Tools
Along the way he recreated some of the tools he always found genuinely useful, so beginners do not have to hunt for them across a dozen sites. These include the Bitcoin Rainbow Chart, the Fear and Greed Index, a crypto market heatmap, and a staking calculator. They are free, ad-honest, and built to help you understand the market rather than to sell you anything.
What He Focuses On
- Fundamentals: How Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other blockchain networks actually work, including consensus mechanisms like Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake.
- Practical Guides: Step-by-step tutorials for buying, storing, and safely sending cryptocurrency.
- Security and Scam Awareness: Helping readers recognize and avoid fraud, covered in depth in guides like How to Avoid Crypto Scams and case studies such as The Squid Game Crypto Scam.
- Platform Research: Objective, hands-on overviews of cryptocurrency Exchanges, documenting their features, fee structures, security history, and regulatory standing.
- Industry History: Profiles of the founders, developers, and personalities (Crypto OGs) who shaped the industry.
How He Works
Everything published on this site follows a consistent process:
- Research from primary sources such as whitepapers, official documentation, on-chain data, and regulatory filings, supplemented by reputable news reporting.
- Fact-checking before publication, with significant claims traceable to a verifiable source.
- Regular updates as technology, markets, and regulation evolve. Articles are reviewed and revised rather than left to go stale.
- Transparent corrections. Mistakes happen in a fast-moving field. If you spot an error, please reach out via the contact page and verified corrections are made promptly.
A Note on Financial Advice
Nothing Oktay writes is financial advice. He is not a licensed financial advisor, and TheCrypto.Wiki deliberately avoids telling readers what to buy or when. The goal of this site is understanding: giving you the knowledge to evaluate this technology critically and make your own informed decisions, including the decision not to invest at all.
